Ranking and Filtering Rules Using the Coveo for Sitecore Legacy Search UI Framework

Enterprise only Coveo for Sitecore 4.1 (November 2018)

The Sitecore rule set editor allows you to rank and filter query results to improve search relevance. When using the rule set editor, you manage content with logic-based rules.

To create these rules, you combine custom or Sitecore default conditions with actions.

Conditions are Boolean; they can either be true or false. The condition where an item is locked by me is true if you locked that item, and false if you didn’t.

Actions are steps undertaken as soon as one condition in a rule is true. Actions display or hide content to obey the conditions.

Rules are the result of a condition associated to an action.

To learn more about conditions, actions, and rules, see The Rule Set Editor.

Creating Ranking and Filtering Rules

With Coveo for Sitecore enterprise, you can leverage the Sitecore rule set editor, which adds a custom rule to the ones existing in Sitecore. This process is especially useful if the desired condition doesn’t exist in Sitecore.

You only want red mountain bikes to appear in search results on your site. Therefore, using the Sitecore Rule Set Editor, you customize the query so only red mountain bikes appear. When no red mountain bikes fit your query, no result should be returned.

To add filtering or boosting expressions to your search interface, see Adding Boosting or Filtering Expressions.

With Coveo for Sitecore Hive, you also have access to individual renderings containing the rule set editor. When working with these renderings, you will be able to configure and personalize your search interface by creating ranking and filtering rules.
